D16a and ZC horsepower ratings?????
Im about to replace my d16z6 with the japanese equivalent d16a or SOHC vtec ZC, i was told these are rated at about 135 horsepower, does anyone know what the correct horsepower ratings for these engines are, and what reputable source i can verify them from? Also in changeing this engine, are there any quirks i should know about?

the ratings are pretty close to the z6 you are going to replace. is there something wrong with your current motor that makes you want to swap it out? if you are thinking that there will be a big gain in performance going with a "JDM" sohc, i think you'll be greatly disappointed. you are better off making some smart mods to the z6 than going with the swaps you mentioned.

I agree with YBELE
Dont swap if you think your gonna get a lot of hp, or even more tq. not that easy. you gotta get a b18 if your want some tq and crap. but the d16 isnt bad...just gotta hook up a nice lil blower
thats how you REALLY add power to your car, **** superchargers. ya ...with a SC you have no lag when you smash the gas off the line, but it takes you being a full redline to get your full boost, when with a turbo you could be at full boost at 2,300k rpm's

Im not looking for horsepower upgrades, my AEM cold air of five years hydro-locked my engine in a flash flood in columbus, very sad. I just found a cheap japanese motor so thats the only reason for the switch.

I had the zc in my hatch and i smoke almost every sohc vtec i raced out here in albq new mexico and u can ask them, i almost smoked everyone off the line and they would catch me in like 3rd gear with the top end power. I ran a 16.8 with that motor. and there was no top end limiter that i could reach took it to 130 before.
o yea and about the time it would be about 1 sec faster at sea level our drag strip is about 1 mile in elevation. so we seem slower here.

i'm guessing you have a dohc zc in a 4th gen hatch. pretty potent combo if you do, that would explain alot.

NO sohc boy i had a zc sohc vtec in my hatch .. eg hatch it was a direct bolt i got it from a 95 coupe that had body mods but was wrecked and the engine was good. I/H/E and that was it, it was still a potent combo and the hp and tq are right around that of the dohc zc motor.

I/H/E and you beat z6's while running 16.8's? Sounds like crap, or maybe you and your friends are bad drivers?

Re: D16a and ZC horsepower ratings????? (YBELEGL)
what other mods did you have on your hatch that ran the 16.8 (15.8) at sea level? I ran 15.4's with my coupe with the z6, with various bolts ons not quite at sea level. Anyone ever dyno a z6 or a sohc vtec zc or d16a?

Re: D16a and ZC horsepower ratings????? (YBELEGL)
his 16.8 was a mile above sea level so he'd be in the 15's @ sea level. also there are plenty of hatches with sohc's running 15's. yb if u look in the all motor area there is quite a bit of info on the d-series. if u want ask builthatch personally he had a combo that made 150 hp at the wheels and the dyno sheet to prove it.

still not funny.. kentucky.. doesnt sound as bad as albuquerque. where i am. ha and there are tons of fast cars bet yet we have a drag strip here and we are a mile up in elevation from sea level so we run a sec slower then the sea level cats..lol
