D16Z6 parts interchangeability (sp?) with other D16
I live in Venezuela and I have an imported 92 Si with a D16Z6 engine, in my country Honda didnt sell but ZC engines so there are no parts in stock specifically for my engine. I want to know if I can use some ZC or y7 (6G came with y7) parts.
The waterpump (BAAD JOKE)
Oilpan Gasket
Timing belt Tensioner
All other belts (vbelt, etc)
Valves
pistons and rings
Rods
Engine bearings

Re: D16Z6 parts interchangeability (sp?) with other D16 (jetpilot)
Basically a D16Z6 motor is a D16A (88-91 Civic Si SOHC) Bottom end (with Z6 specific pistons) with a Vtec head.
So the Bottom-end parts are mostly compatible (same crank, rods, rod bearings, main bearings, different pistons)
The Head is the problem ... this Vtec head was only made from 92-95 and was available only two motors that I am aware of, the D16Z6 SOHC Vtec (North America mostly) and the JDM D15B SOHC Vtec
And it appears that most other D16 head related parts are NOT compatable with the D16Z6 .
You can use http://www.slhondaparts.com/ to double check part compatability or to order parts online. The other online US based online retailer is http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ It may be easier/safer to order the parts you require thru the states and deal with any customs / border issues at your end.
The other option is to use 1.6L Civic or ZC pistons/rings in your D16Z6 block (they will fit in as all 1.6L SOHC blocks share the same bore and stroke) But you may see a change in compression ratio. For example 88-91 DOHC ZC pistons in a Z6 block with a Z6 head should net you arround 11.8:1 compression ratio .. alot higher than stock.
For more info on the D-series motors goto .... http://pub161.ezboard.com/bbseriesalternative

I hope this helped a bit
Good Luck !!!!
