you need ti use a ls non vtec head gasket
you need to match the timing belt with the vater pump. so if you use a ls timing belt y ou will need to use a 19tooth ls water pump and if u use a gsr/itr timing belt you will need to the the 22 tooth gsr/itr water pump

and about the dowels
you ca either take the head to a machine shop to have them machine the dowels on to the intake side of the head because the dowels are on the intake side of a ls block not on the exhaust side like a vtec block
or
you can just buy the golden eagle dowels which let you use them on the exhaust side with no machining required

he explianed it perfect there..... i think you have to make the head gasket holes bigger so the dowel pins will go through.. i heard that on one of these ls/vtec threads.

the thing is i had a b20b swap with the vtec head on it and it has the dowels on the intake side of tat and i think the head might have been drilled but in that case i can just get the small dowels located on the exhaust side like u said, i have to check tat out.
is the ls gasket going to need any modifications or will i be ok with the size of the oil holes and everything.
i kinda figured that u had to match the belt and pump i just didn;'t know if there was a better of the two

thanks
