how much money do you want to put into this? what are you going to build it up for (NA, NO2, turbo)? what kind of gains are you wanting? either way it is a must to build up the bottom end to see any major power gains. this can be very costly! we'll probably need a little more info on what you are wanting out of this before we can give you our best opinions...the F22A depending on what "trim" is going to have around 140hp, but has a compression of ~8:1 which is great for and type of forced induction....whereas the F22B has around 160hp, but has a higher compression of ~9:1 (which you could bring down with thicker head gasket, pistons, etc...).

well...most important thing with forced induction is fuel management...DO NOT SKIMP ON THIS AS IT WILL SAVE YOUR *** MONEY AND HEARTACHE! also, im going ahead and building up my bottom end. depending on how much boost you want to run depends on what you need to do. but, building your engine up will increase its life 10 fold...you wont be sorry with the money you spend on it. if you decide not to go turbo after installed new pistons/rods etc... you will atleast have the peace of mind that your engine will last a hell of a long time.

lag? lag isn't that bad if not really non-existent...you just don't pick a random turbo and slap it on! you pick the turbo that best suites your needs! certain turbos spool faster than others. i believe the t3/t4 starts to spool around 3500rpm. don't quote me on that though...as i believe i read that. i cant tell you too much about all the spool times since im not that far ahead. im focusing simply on building the bottom end. turbo parts will come around later winter or early spring. don't get ahead of yourself either...start with one thing and stick with and move on. it may sound dorky, but i write down what i want to do in stages. stage 1 being replacing such and such, or completing the bottom end. basically, give yourself some sort of "things to do list" to follow as it may help you focus on what NEEDS to be done (helps me at least). lets say you buy your misc. turbo parts and half *** build your engine and give up? who knows if you can sell the stuff and make your money back (depending on if new or used). buy what you need when you need (unless its a hell of a deal). don't rush things either! get a helms, haynes, or chiltons manual as it will be a must for anything you do yourself. i nice set of tools is a must along with torque wrenches (really important). make a list of ALL the parts you need over and over again...read everything you can read on turbos, engines, and forced induction in general. you have so many options to choose that it's not even funny. make your decisions based on what you want and what you have learned...not just because someone says so.

great place to learn how turbo works, and other car parts! hope this helps you out somewhat and good luck on your endeavor!
