zex cam finally installed
Well my Dad and I finally got my zexcam 105300 with compcam valve springs, along with my aem cam gear installed on my d16y8 and after 2 days of fiddling with the timing, we got it to run. it ran rough and idled eratically, but it ran, which was progress. so after dinner we turned the distributor as far as it would go towards the firewall (which retards the timing some I think) and the difference was completely amazing! the car ran perfectly and I could feel an increase in power and torque throughout the powerband, according to the butt dyno anyways! it ran smooth and accelerated like a champ! later I'll be doing a DIY on http://www.d-series.org on how to install valve springs, a camshaft, and cam gear so anyone who wants to check it out can. anyways, just postign some feedback on these products. maybe I'll put up another post after a few thousand miles.
when installing the zex cam into a d16y8, do you have to adjust the timing by turning the distributor all the way or was it not timed? i'm just curious, and any dyno info coming soon?
well my cam gear was left set at 7 degrees advanced. so to compensate, we adjusted the timing via the distributor, rather than going through the whole hassle of adjusting the timing on the gear, just because we been working on this thing all week and were ready to have it running so i could go to church and work without my moms chevy lumina
. I'll let the tuner fix it all properly. so i assume I'm probably about 3 - 4 degrees advanced total on the camshaft. anyways, I'll let the tuner sort it out when I get it dyno tuned, but that won't happen until I install the VAFC, fuel pressure regulator, along with the vcn1000 n2o kit. bwahahaha. speaking of tuners:
anyone know any reputable dyno tuning shops in the Jacksonville, Florida area?

oh yea, can anyone recommend some spark plugs for my set up? right now I've got bosch platinums gapped at .040, which is stock specifications. its been about a year since I changed. someone give me a suggestion. my set up is:
d16y8
ram air intake
gsr throttle body
skunk2 intake manifold
zex cam
compcam valve springs
aem cam gear
dc sports 4-2-1 ceramic coated header
hi flow cat
full 2.5" exhaust
thanks Honda-tech homies

your mods aren't anything worth getting a plkug different than stock. I run/ran OEM NGK's with the same setup.
Oh, and when the top side of dizzy goes towards firewall, thats advancing

you do know your messing around w/ 2 different timing events, that of the ignition and that of the cam(valves) dont you? cam timing affects ignition timing but not the other way around.

yes, i realize it now after actually going through the installation. I'm kinda new to this stuff. since the car is running fine now, I'll let the tuner make the changes he wants.
