Default ZEX camshaft and valvespring dyno....kind of disappointed

I made it down to Secret Services to make 4 pulls on the dyno this morning. I have to say I'm a little disappointed with how the ZEX cam and springs have worked out for me so far.

First of all, I think they sent me the 59300 cam in a 105300 box, because I had to advance the cam gear 5 deg in order to get the normal band of adjustment on the distributor for ignition timing. When I had the cam gear at 0 deg I couldn't get my ignition timing to advance more than 10 deg.

Here was my original dyno BEFORE the ZEX cam and valvesprings.

This is the dyno with the ZEX cam and valvesprings installed. The red curve is the first initial pull I made with the cam gear at 5 deg advance and ignition timing 16 BTDC. The blue line is with the cam gear at about 2 1/2 deg advance and the ignition timing at about 15.5 BTDC.

I also tried making a pull after this with the cam gear at 6 deg advance and the ignition timing at 16 BTDC, but I lost 10whp doing that.

I am disappointed with the 2whp and 4wtq gain over my previous dyno, but I feel that it has more power left in it, if I was able to retard the cam gear more without sacrificing ignition timing. John (my tuner) is on vacation and they did not have the laptop at the shop to make any adjustments with my Hondata. It would be possible to retard the cam timing more and compensate the ignition timing through the Hondata once I tune for turbo.

This maybe should be in all-motor, but this setup is soon to be turboed.

Is the ZEX Y8 cam good for turbo?

hey Ryan i think you'll see good gains setting it around 3 degrees advanced. Thats where mine is set now and I can just get 16 derees of ignition timing with the dizzy fully advanced. Stock ignition timing for a y8 is 12 anyways. I'm still not sure if I should use 12 or 16 with my turbo setup. I got it on 12 right now just to be safe.

You are also using a 59300 in a Y8, right?

I think it just needs alot of tweeking, John spent alot of time getting the all-motor tune right with the stock camshaft before. Thanks for the , I needed it.
