VTEC works then it goes out!
When I am driving on the street or racing at the track VTEC will work but after I go into 4th gear it turns off after a split second. then vtec does not work anymore until i turn off the car and turn it back on. Some things to know are that i wired VTEC myself and grounded it, i used wire taps to connect it to the skunk2 conversion harness to use a p28. I dont know why it is doing this i checked my Vtec plug to see if the pins were in all the way both plugs that i used were in all the way. i checked my oil its there. Please help me out running at the track is killing me with no VTEC in 4th gear!
[QUOTE=DemostheneZ]Check the VTEC fluid you may be low

he might not have been too far off, do you have sufficient oil pressure? and oil level?

pull the vtec soleniod assembly off and give it a good cleaning, and make sure u have sufficent oil pressure. does your check engine light come on when this happens? i know on my ls/vtec i was dropping oil pressure then it would cut the CEL on and throw the vtec code.

By the way i have no VAFC.
Also i notice the VTEC stops working after i hit 4th gear at about 85 mph then no more VTEC. No check engine light comes on so i guess that means no codes right?
IM running a chipped p28 which worked perfectly good in my EG and the b16 ran good. now in the EK it does not want ot work.

im assuming u have a conversion harness. once again this sounds like a oil pressure delimma to me. make sure it isnt dropping pressure. if it isnt that then im lost as to what it could possibly be. how do you know the VTEC isnt working?

You can get codes without the light coming on. My light went off and I still wanted to check for a code... What do you know? It still spit it out. My problem is intermitant, so if that was the case, I don't think I could ever get it.

i had the same excat problem and after hundreds of dollars of speending it was my oil pressure sensor on the back of the block it sounds like the same problem you should try that im sure it will work
Check your oil level (Vtec will not work if your oil level is to low)
Change your oil (dirty oil will prevent vtec from kicking in)
Check coolant level - make sure no air is in the system.

I have my vtec working now thanks for all the reply's H-T. I think it was my wire taps one of them was not touching the wire it was not tapped enough. But I also cleaned the VTEC soleniod with brake parts cleaner. I dont think it was the brakes part cleaner though because it didnt work after i putthe vtec soleniod back on it started to work after i retapped my wires.

how would the oil pressure sender affect vtec? the vtec system has its own oil pressure sender right?
