I dont know if this thread belongs here but I remember reading a thread recently about a guy removing a power steering on his del sol or an EJ6 (not sure, but I think it was a del sol) and he gained 7hp to the wheels (he even got dyno charts to prove it). Can anyone link me to this thread?

I've also read that less resistant engine ground wires also add SOME hp.

Anyone have threads related to these? Yes, I've searched already!

I don't have the link about power steering, but it's not the first time I've heard of someone making a solid horsepower gain from removing it, my car gained just under five at the greatest point, and a little over two at the peak.

As far as ground wires, you have to consider the fact that the OEM Honda wires are pretty camn good, so there isn't really a whole lot of room for improvement. The majority of aftermarket wires I've dealt with have been cheaply made and actually work worse than the Honda ones.

 

go get a bunch of 8 guage wires and connect them to 8 places...throttle body, im, starter, vtec soleniod, tranny, thermostat housing, valve cover, altenator...and that should be good to go. thats what i did smother acceleration, faster starting, smoother idling...

 

removing any parasitic draws from the pulleys will give you some form of gains. P/S or A/C are both driven by the crank, so taking those loads off of it will allow it to move with less effort and thus gaining a couple horses. If you actually think about it, your not really gaining horses, your just setting a few loose that weren't able to make themselves present beforehand.

As for ground wires. Electricity is like water. More pipes to flow through = faster, easier flow. It's just finding where to put the pipes. Experiment with different spots, dyno if you can.

 

dont tell the appearence forum that more ground wires are better. Next thing we'll know they will have 100 wire kits for sale. hahaha

i worked on my friends car... ac/ps removed and replaced all the grounds, changed oil, tbelt, and a valve adjustment, and timming.. spent little to nothing and it made a MAJOR diffrence.. car pulled so much better.

Well worth it i think.

 

how the hell would removing the a/c provide anything but a weight loss. the compressor has a clutch and isnt sapping power when you have the a/c off.

 

I wouldnt trust the ground wires. Import Tuner did a dyno test and switched the stock ground wires on a prelude for the hyperwires(?) that had 5 connections and actually lost 2 or 3 hp.

 

i've seen a couple mags do dyno's on replacing the ground wires and they made hp. I'm sure they fudged it up. Also the ac runs off the crank.. enough said

it runs off the crank when you turn the a/c on, when its off its just a pulley that spinning. so if you think the .25hp it may take to run a pulley is worth not having a/c then go for it, and while your at it strip your car to nothing and make it a even crappier car.

We are pleased to announce that during a recent dyno test for D-Sport magazine, the new A'PEX Super Ground System made an outstanding 8.5 horse power to the wheels. Testing was conducted on a 2004 Subaru WRX STi using XS Engineering's four wheel chassis dynamometer. Previous modifications to the car consist of upgraded intake, downpipe, exhaust, and front mount intercooler. Power output was increased throughout the power band with a maximum gain of 8.5hp at 6000 RPM (400 RPM sooner than baseline max power). This test proves the real world capabilities of the Super Ground System.

 

I ordered the greedy grounding kit and some mother earth wires earlier this week off ebay. I'll post up the install when i get the stuff in a few weeks.

 

if you go to http://www.sunautomobile.com they sell power and ground wires. They make some claims on the site and include dyno sheets to back them up.

 

it all depends on how shitty the OEM grounds are compared to the fresh new, non corroded wires.

cruddy oem = poor grounding and power.

 

when u are wirring up the gounds to different spots on the engine should each one go back to chassic ground or does it matter?

 

all wires should end AT the neg terminal of the battery

 

grounds go to chassi, and then from chassi to neg terminal on battery
