Default T3/T4 fad. Is T3 better?

Ok Ok....before we start yes I searched. I also read alot instead of posting. Obviously I am turboing and looking for about 280WHP on my 95 teg LS B18b. I want to keep the enitre block stock (for now). I calculated everything from a small 46 trim T3 to a big 60trim T3/T04e compressor map. And at almost every PSI from 8 to 14 and from almost every rpm range from 3500 to 7000. The the T3 60 trim compressor map seemed to always be the best fit with a lot of points hitting the center efficiency. Now from what I "hear/read" the T3 is not the best choice for me because at high RPM the power drops. People say go with a T3/T04e 54 or 57 trim. What i don't get is why!!! The compressor points fall best on the T3 60trim! What's going on!

P.S. I have a very easy compressor map plotter I made in excel. If you want to see it PM me or e-mail me. i don't have a host so if someone could post it for others that would be cool! I know the calculations are correct because I got it from "Maximum Boost" and they make sense too.

Anyway my big question is......is a T3/T4 just hype like some people say or is the compressor map lying in some way?

A T3 isnt a bad choice, but there are other factors than efficiency... real world factors. If you have a turbo that spools by 2800rpms, making 280whp... you will have major traction issues.

One thing I have found from years of turbos is the fact that the compressor map doesn't tell all. If you ever get a chance to get the turbine map for many of these t3/t04 turbos, you'll see that there is an efficiency level that fits well, but may not look like it fits well on the particular "island" that you're looking at.

Best determination is to not go with the "perfect" fit when it comes to that map, you want to slightly overcompensate a little when plotting so you can have the ability to grow with your setup for later, or in the weird case that your motor "acts" a little different than the posted specs of a B18B. I might be sounding a little confusing to you, but one other alternative is GT28Rs, which has great potential for the B18B. PM me, I'm also on T-I.

I got the t3/t4oe 57 trim for my gsr, wish it would spool up a little sooner. i hit full boost (10lbs) at about 4500 rpms. Would be alittle more fun on the street.

I'm looking into a full race mani, supposed to increase spool by 800 rpms, that would be nice.

If you're looking to increase spool by that much, a FULL-RACE isn't going to help, that means a another turbo such as the GT28RS or some other ball-bearing
