You will need to get it certified. Here are the things that I know that you need to have in order to get it certified.

1. it has to be 92+ motor
2. All smog and emissions have to be included
3. You need to pay like $35 to get a tag that says that it's smog legal
4. Can't be a JDM motor, Has to be USDM

Hope this helps. I know a couple of people who did swaps and got a DOT approval on their firewall.

I thought JDM motors can be BAR certified.

I believe they can be, as long as you use all of the USDM smog equipment.

you must retain the stock uspec 97ls ecu and all smog equipment for that year motor...this has to be done the same if it were using a jdm 97ls motor.

i am using a 97 usdm ls and the ecu and everything is the right one and everything else is hooked up for smog. the only thing i have heard tho is that it will not pass because it is an obdII motor going into an obdI. i heard there is no way to pass an obdII motor off in an ObdI car. any comments would help thanks

So if you have a jdm b16 you would still need a USDM ecu?

your car will pass as long as all the smog equipment and uspec ecu regardless what chassis its in.
