b18c5 what ECU to use?
All B18c5's are OBD II right? What Ecu should I use for a ITR swap in a 92 VX hatch? Is there an OBDI ITR ECU? What ECU would be best? Or is it easier to just use the OBD II ECU? Plus, what wiring harness whould I use to get this swap runing?
JDM has a obd I ITR. If can, it's rare, get a p72 94-95 gsr ecu has dual stage VTEC at 4400-5600 (good ecu got it in my 00si) P28 is good for a OBD I, or hondata.
Isnt Hondata added on to the stock ECU? And I dont think they do OBDII ECU's. So would I have to get an OBDI VTEC ECU and then get it Hondata chipped and then just tuned for optimum ITR specs?
chipped P28 (civic sohc vtec ecu)
I believe there are a couple of guys on this board that sell them for ~$200. Kenji and Ihaterice come to mind. My buddy is running one of Kenji's ecu's and it rips

Anyone of u guys out there passed the emission test in California or something with a chipped P28/P30 etc?
What did u do to make your B18C5 equipped 92-95 EH pass emission test?

Custom chipped or generic?

I think Kenji has a stockish tune as well as a couple of hotter (mugen, etc.) programs. And I think Ihaterice has a few tunes as well. My buddy has the "Mugen" program from Kenji.

Ihaterice is a different guy on this board.........but i think you guys were referring to me.
The one question about passing CA emissions with a chipped p28....if your running a chip w/ the stock maps, then i wouldnt see why you wouldnt pass smog, but if you go into emissions with a aftermarket program such as my all motor program for the b18c5, there's no way you will come close to passing. Sticking to obd1 would be idealy the best way to go since obd 1 ecu's are more tuner friendly. pm me if you want more info

Yes, all ITR engines are a form of OBD2, whether they be JDM or US made. There was never an OBD1 ITR engine or ecu either, thats a plain myth.
The best ecu to use in your VX along with the B18C5 engine is an OBD1 reprogrammed civic ecu or an OBD1 integra VTEC ecu. If you want to run an ITR ecu (JDM or US) in your VX, there are jumper harnesses (obd1->obd2a/b) that allow you to do this. If you're interested in one hit me up, I sell these
.
The downside (as already mentioned) is that reprogramming an OBD2 ecu cost $$ and is complicated to get done. Not a lot of people/places offer OBD2 chipping either, that is, if you would want chip your ITR ecu. Sticking with an OBD1 ecu is a better choice when it comes to reprogramming options. I, as well, reprogram ecu's (seems like ecu reprogrammers are a dime a dozen now these days eh?)

Hey Katman or anyone else,
What kind of issues would occur if I used a ITR ECU with a Jumper (OBDI to OBDII)?
Regarding Smog, performance, cells etc...............

well, if you want to make the car smog legal in CA., you need to abide by the smog rules, meaning the motor has to be of the same year as your car or newer, and if its newer engine than your vehicle, you need to be compliant with the smog standards of the engines specific year...ie. OBD2 engine means you need to run OBD2 smog equipment in your OBD1 vehicle along with the ecu.
If your engine is JDM, fugedabout all of it. JDM engine's or blocks at least, aren't smog legal in CA.
If you run a US OBD2 ecu, you'll need to wire-in the extra OBD2 sensors (2nd 02 & CKF). This is made a bit easier to do though if you purchase a jumper through me
my ecu jumpers for adapting a US OBD2a or OBD2b ecu have a spare pigtail of wiring connected to them so you can wire these additional sensors in.
Cell codes will read the same if you should ever throw a check engine light. Thats the beauty of OBD1 & OBD2a/b... Honda made the engine wiring backwards/forward compatible between the 92-95 & 96-00 civics & integras. Along with the aide of an ecu jumper harness too!

I vouch for Katman. Really good guy. Picked up a OBD2b -> OBD2a harness from him. Quality piece of equipment.

It all depends on how you want to look at it. The early JDM ITR (1996-1998) uses an ECU with OBDII plugs, but which functions like an OBDI ECU and uses no more sensors (fewer, in fact, since it uses neither a purge vaklve nor VTEC pressure switch). So for this reason, it is sometimes considered an OBDI ECU. But the truth is that there is no such thing as OBDI or OBDII when it comes to JDM ECUs.
But in the case of California, remember that if you with to ref a B18C5 of any kind, you will need the USDM P73 ECU and all the sensors it uses.
