Default turbo problem

i just put a turbo on my OBD0 b16. my problems is when i get on it when it gets to 6500-7000 rpms it acts like it hits rev limiter. another guy around here is having the same problem. does anyone know what is the problem? at first i thought it just needed check valves but it didn't help. so if you know what is wrong please post.

Thanks
Corey

What are you using for an EMS? You could either be running too rich or too lean in that spot. What are your plugs gaped at? Make sure you have them gaped at the right size (i believe .28 is ideal). Check those two things then let us know what happens.

I have the same issue with my 99gsr and my greddy 18g turbo. I was told by my friend it might be my spark plugs too... or a bad air flow sensor...? I just got this problem so Im looking to fix this...anymore thoughts???

When you go to start your car does it fire right up? or does it take awhile? (like a few cranks) I know when my plugs go bad i start to get sputtering on the high way if i give it alittle gas and it takes 2-3 times to try to start my car (2-3 times of holding the key down for like 5 secs each time). See if your plugs are fouled out 2.

I was told the term fouled out....I dont know what that means...with my spark plugs I think one has a broken needle so the gap might be off... My car starts right up but my rpm's start out jumpy at idle then it smooths itself and if I barely touch the gas rpm's drop hard...

I meant barely touch the throttle and then no throttle causes rpm's to drop low to about 350-450...

Fouled out means there is carbon deposits on the plugs causing it not to spark very well. It is caused by running rich.

Keith, sounds like you're fouling out on off-throttle enritchment

Corey, you're blowing out your candles.

My spark plugs were fouling out, thanks for that idea...What its now boosting positive... but I think it seems jumpy in the acceleration...I also experience a strange sensation while getting on the petal one time. I believe I was over boosting then it was before It seem like it was just going to keep boosting the more gas I gave it. Is this the actuator rod?

no problem.

Possible, but not too likely. Sounds like boost creep. If your manifold has a 90º turn in order to reach the wastegate, then you'll unquestionably have boost creep. What kind of manifold are you using?

its the greddy turbo manifold... I have many poroblems in this area in the past week or so. I'm guessing something is not right, Either some part or I just need a tuning...?

I've seen 2 different manifolds from Greddy. One's cast and cracks a lot, the other is tubular with a wastegate exit pointed in the opposite direction of exhaust flow. Not sure which one you have but neither outcome looks good, to be honest. One boost leaks, the other boost creeps.

Ahh.. The boost leak model, lol. Apparantly it hasn't cracked as yet. Out of curiosity, are you running an internal waste gate (and if so, what diamater) or have you modified it to run an external waste gate?

What kind of exhaust are you running? My 18G creeps up to around 10psi because of my 3" exhaust/downpipe. My boostcontroller was set at 7psi before I changed the exhaust over...
