Head gasket problem / Dowel Pins

Default Head gasket problem / Dowel Pins

Last week i blew my head gasket took it apart, and i took dowel pins out, well i put my new head gasket on and tighten to 80lbs,, well after i put my motor toghter i remember the Dowel pins, so my question is if i remove the head can i still re-use the new headgasket??
The car hasnt been started or anything,, and the gasket it brand new

please HELP me

I say yes. Some people will say no, stating once its been crushed its spent.

Ive crushed and reused the same new head gasket 4 times on my beater (91 LS) before starting it up without problems 5k miles later.

^^ yea i'd have to agree. esp if you haven't even started it up or driven it yet.

just be careful not to mess up the gasket in any way when removing the head and torque back down to spec when done and i can't see you having any problems. worst case scenario, u start it up and drive it and the hg leaks, well then at least u know exactly what it is. best and more probable case, everything will go fine and you'll have saved yourself a few bucks. good luck

I would get a new gasket, because now with the pins in place the head will be locked in position which might be diffrent from what it was when you put it on the first time with out the dowels.

Agreed. Its not hard to replace a HG and at $80 ea for an OEM HG Id rather chance it and possibly replace it later than just toss it needlessly in the trash.
