Default rattling short shifter!

well i've searched and did almost everything people did to fix their rattling shifters but none of them seem to fix my rattling problem. I was driving the other day and noticed when i pull the shifter back with a little bit of pressure, then the rattling goes away. i was thinking that by maybe buying a new weighted shift ****, it might fix the problem a little. anyone know what i can do here?

Replace your shift bushings... when mine were going bad at high rpms it would rattle. Once I replaced it you have to let it wear in but once it wears in it should be great! They are only like $20.

What kind of shifter do you have? Does it have metal bearings in the bottom, or did you have to transfer over parts from the stock shifter?

Most likely the cause is too much freeplay on the through-bolt. I used washers to take up the space on my short shifter, no rattles for almost 3 years now.

I got that short shifter from one of our sponsers. also i'm using energy suspension bushings. and yes i had to tranfer parts from the stock shifter over. i guess i'll try using some washers and see if that'll work. how many washers did you use and what size??

Ehh I hate shifters that don't have metal bearing in the bottom (B&M)

I used the spacers which came with my shifter, which prevents the thru-bolt from being overtightened, and then several stainless steel washers and 1 lock washer to keep everything pressed together and rattle-free.

B&M states it in their instructions .. to reuse the old bearings. if you were smart (and didn't listen to them), i suppose you would have bought new ones. but regardless, unsealed bearings suck.

indeed, and that rubber o-ring junk that you have to put in there

Don't know what I'm talking about? I've driven 2 different cars with B&M shifters and I thought they sucked. They still had the rubbery feeling of the stock shifter, which my short throw did not have even with STOCK bushings. I also hate how the shift **** sits farther away from the driver.

well, i've tried adding some washers and that doesn't seem to help. tried switching my bushing back to stock and i think that made it rattle a little more. tried turning the shifter around so that the reach is a little further and that seemed to help out a bit, but i don't like having the shifter further. can't use the cup holder when it's like that. anyone have any other answers to this??

could the pivot be hitting your exhaust pipes? or is it not that kind of rattling? can you describe the rattling sound?

Does your short shifter have metal bearings in the bottom? I don't think you ever said. If not, I would get a short shifter that does.

yeah mine uses the bearing from the stock shifter. the rattling sounds like the shift **** is loose, but when i take the shift **** off, the rattling is still there. and no i don't think it's hitting the exhaust, i've already checked. it seems to be rattling in every gear and it's driving me nuts!

my skunk2 is doing the same. I also have energy suspension bushings. It seems to happen in 4th gear when im cruising around 3-4 rpms. Sounds like my itr shift **** is loose... annoying
