1st Gen B16a in 98 honda civ
my friend of mine called me up and said he got a motor for his car 98civic ex .. bad thing is its a 1st gen b16a. i know its not impossible to do but im having a hard time remembering what he would need to swap over and keep it 0BD2
can he use a 96+ gsr ecu without changing is wire harness?
since it is a cable tranny will he still be able to use 99-00 si axles/ 94-00 integ?
any info will help. thanks

You will need to ditch all the OBD0 parts for OBD2 components. You will need a mount kit from HASport, HCP, etc. with cable conversion if you want to use the cable tranny. All in all, it's not worth it in the long run. I would recommend just using the longblock and getting the proper OBD2 components and a B series hydro tranny. Sell the cable tranny and OBD0 parts to make some $ back.

and after all that, he would still need to switch to a OBD1 ecu because the OBD2 ecu's look for that crank sensor that only obd2's have on the block.

I was just being brief on the overview. He can still be OBD2 by using a USDM B series OBD2 oil pump and crank fluctuation sensor, or just get a JDM OBD2 ECU.

hes planning on using a usdm 98-96 obd2 gsr ecu. and for everything elts change, distributer, crank sensor, injectors, oil pump, all too obd2 components (correct me if im wrong or left anything out). find hydro tranny to replace cable. and use the same wire harness, right??

sure he can do that and use the same harness...
a damn nightmarish process, but yes, thats all doable.
