What Causes Brake Pads to Wear Unevenly? Help me correct this problem
These are my used rear brake pads off of a 94 teg LS, with ABS.
What caused this? Bad shims, bad caliper? Rotors? Did the previous owner not install it right?
Thx.

My guess would be rotors.

I have the same problem happening on one of my front brake pads on my 95 LS teg. I've been wondering if that has been causing the shimmy I get while braking.

Can you guys see it now or still no

Either the shims or:
Since that is the rears, the piston is a screw type, so I would think that it IS NOT caused by a hung up piston.
Therefore, I would think that the cause is improper pad installation.
Reason I say that is, on the rears, it is important to line up the studs on the backing plate with the "+" indentation on the head of the piston, and if the studs are not in the grooves, the pads will either 1) be crooked and wear unevenly, AND OR 2) be hung up and not fully disengage, causing premature, uneven wear and rotor overheating

also..if you see a dent or "shiny" spot on the face of the piston (the part with the "+" cut into it) where maybe the stud from the backing plate was rubbing on or poking into it and not "in the groove" then that may tell you it was not installed properly...?? I dunno

You'd feel the car shake while you're braking, if this was the case...

not the rotors. most likely not the caliper piston. not the shims. could be partly improper installation from not making sure that every thing is sliding smooth. make sure that all the places the caliper slides on are lube up and slide fairly smooth and easy. looks like the bottom sliding portion was hanging up. look at the caliper brakets and make sure there aren't groove worn into it from the pad.

Some of this is right. Mine are like this. Its a 94 Civic with Abs and I went to Autozone and you will need to order a Abs Hardware Disc Kit. Something with your calipers or something. Just go ask and they'll help you out. Sorry can't remember what exactly they said. Hope this kind of helps.
