Do you need those plates on the back of brake pads?

Like I said, is it important to have those brake pad plates on the back of the pad?? I'm guessing it helps distribute the force on the pad but do I really have to put them on cause I can't get the ****** caliper over the pads with them on?? how but just one??

No, you don't need them. They just help keep the brakes quiet. You shopuld be able to get the caliper over them though.
