What to use to protect your carbon fiber hood
Ok for those who own a carbon fiber hood on your car, do you use or apply anything on your hood to protect it from the sun? I have a VIS carbon fiber hood and they say that they already come with a UV protect coating to keep it from fading under the sun. I just want to know if any of you apply anything to your hood to keep it protected from the sun or anything from the weather.
Thanks!
Thanks!

You don't need to wax it EVERY time. That is just a waste unless you are using some crappy wax.
Anyways, if your hood is clearcoated, you can use some type of wax/sealant. I would claybar the hood first then wax it. If your hood is gelcoated, then do not wax.

I know i have an original VIS carbon fiber hood (the old school first production ones) it is 4 years old, and last fall it finally started fading and hazing over. I polished waxed it with my paint usually once a month in the summer and I still got the hazing.

Um, paint it.
Otherwise get it sprayed with the highest quality clearcoat you can afford.

Wax puts a protective coat over the existing coat of whatever (gel coat, clear, etc). It's not going to strip away the gel-coat from the hood... if it does, you have some ****'d up wax. If you have a CF hood, wax it every now and then and your hood will stay fine. If the sun is really eating away the hood, depending on where you live and how hot/hard the sun beats on it, take it to a paint shop and have them shoot a few coats of clear on the hood and that'll make it look like new and put more of a protective coating on it.
Or do what the haters say
and paint it.... heh. Eitherway (clear coat or paint), it puts a protective layer over the existing one.

nothing happends might be a lil more shinny .. but best thing to do is get it clear cloated .. helps to prevent cracking that happends over time.. and its not expansive at the most 100 bucks but worth it .. other wise just use a good spray wax
