you got it backwards. turning the dizzy toward firewall (counterclockwise) is advance.

make sure the engine has warmed up(should be very close to idle ~750rpm), then jumper the service connector, and see if it helps.

Do as aboved stated with the service connector...also you're suppose to unhook the IACV, but I think thats just to slow the rpms down so its easier to see.

Other reasons it could be off:
Timing belt is off a tooth on the timing belt(car would run like crap if this was the case)
Timing belt is loose, letting slack get in the belt, thus allowing the cam to turn a few degrees behind the crank.

when the motor was put in... couldnt start... timing was checked while valve cover was off.. tdc.. straight on white line on crank...

if that was retard.. then when i turn the opposite way it lags when i floor the pedal.. i feel more low end driving like this...

my car is fully warm up before checkin timing ... its under 1k rpms.

what is jump the service connector?

make sure you plug in the SCS connector( under the passenger's kick panel) and warm up the car fully before you check the timing.
