since its a new distributor i wouldnt do that method, you need to get a timing light and do it properly.

*shakes head*
you say you wont be far off but to get a timing light anyway, why even bother to mark it if you use a timing light anyway then change the mark?
and FYI with ignition component wear timing changes. so that mark isnt the correct spot forever.

Thnaks peoples i havent even gotten started yet the distributor is still sitting in the box i might have to break down and go to the dealer "the last resort" . First i'm going to go see if they have a manual at Advance auto or AutoZone.

is it true that it will only go in one way..caz the 2 prongs look so similar when i look to where it goes in the block and it looks symetrical. i have a timing light to set my timing and i kno how but when i took my old one out im an idiot and turned the end and dont kno which way it goes. i dont wana get it in and have it firing at the complete wrong time?? will continue research but saw this thread and decided to ask..
easiest way to change a dizzy without a timing light.
Set the #1 pistons to TDC via the crank pulley, the dizzy rotor will be pointing to where the #1 spark plug wire goes. Set your new distributor so the rotor is pointing in the same direction. Then put the dizzy on, put the spark plug wires back on and fire her up.
The only way you can put the dizzy in wrong is 180 degrees backwards.
