how much would it take 2 bend the valve in 02 s2000
i am curious because i took my car into the dealer ship and they stated that my valves r bent. Here is the story i ran my car but never missed gear at all. but i never redline the car 8500 is my shift point. well we i first took it out of the lot i went 2 my uncles house so he can check out my ride he said that i need a valve adjustment. I waited 2 take my car back on my day of which is a week later. So i took it and the dealership said that its fine so i said okay. So ran it one more time and then went home which is 30min trip and my check in engine went on and i was like hell no. i took it back and they said that my valves r bent. and they r going to charge me 4000 2 fix it. i am just wondering how senstive is this motor and how come it can't take that much abuse.

thats what i said this is my baby i don't abuse my gf. so why should i abuse my wife. well the techs at the dealership doesn't believe oh well no i have bent valve and maybe my heads. so know i have 2 pull 4grand out of my *** 2 pay for it i can just afford the car its self. oh i also have another question do u take your car in from maintance? they said when u change oil on this car its has 2 be tune everytime or someting like that he said i can't do it myself

ya gotta start drinking later in the night, it's too early man!
Anyways, I don't know what you're trying to say, reading your posts is like reading one very long sentence. If you overrev'd the car, you over-reved it. There's no reason valves would bend on their own. This engine is made with forged internals that enable to rev to 9000rpm (F20C). The engine can also run for many miles supercharged with little problems. I would ask them if the pistons have marks on them from where the valves made contact and if one or all of the pistons have the valve marks.

it is possible that valves can stick. that happened to my GSR when the motor exploded at 6K rpm. Honda replaced the whole motor under warranty. Ask them to check the ECU for over-revs. if you exceed redline the ECU will log it. If you have no instances of over-rev, they should consider a warranty fix.
If you ONLY have a bent valve, 4K is just too much. All they have to do is take off the head and replace the valve. If you damaged a piston, that requires a motor rebuild, which at dealer labor will easily hit 4K. In my case, the valve stuck, struck and shattered a piston, and the connecting rod punched a hole in the block. the motor was still running afterward, and i could have driven...albeit with no oil.

I agree with Vapor: I can't understand a friggin word you said.
If I were you, I would take my car to a highly reputable shop. See what they have to say.

I am not sure the s2k ecu logs rpm data, as there have been many failures which have been denied under warranty claim due to over-revving. Are you the original owner? If not, how many miles when you bought it? If the valves are bent and it still runs, it will run reallllllly bad. If something happened in the timing area causing the valves to bend, it wouldnt be running period.

to this date, I haven't heard of one valve sticking on this valvetrain, yes it could happen but very unlikely. Overrev's and low oil are the culprits. There have been some isolated issues of spark plugs backing out due to the washers on the plugs and torque settings. Other than that, some very rare instances of rod failure, and I mean rare.
was a valve adjustment done on the car before you took you took it to the dealer? did your uncle change some specs?

I'd try and push harder for warrenty. Even if you did overrev it (which I doubt at this point, considering the ECU does have a rev limiter) they should warranty it. If they absolutely will not cover it under warranty, talk to your auto insurance broker. If you can prove it was your error that caused the engine damage they might cover you.

The rev limiter only works when the motor is under acceleration from gas pedal. If he over-revved due to a mis-shift, then the rev-limiter cannot keep the motor from damaging itself.

if i understand right you bought a used s2000 and then went out and raced it after they said u needed a valve adjustment, probably not the best idea
well my guess is u needed a valve adjustment, but they were prolly way out from who ever owned the car before you. then it didnt help to race it

does the s2000 run a timing bet or a chain? The cam timing could have had something to do with bent valves. If you run a belt and it skips a tooth due to over reving by mis-shift this could be your problem

I own a DOHC geo prizm and it runs smooth....95 with 73k miles on it blue books for 4k, retailed for 12. I am trying to sell the thing for 3 and get me a nice 92 hatch si in good condition. Prizms are fast as hell!

speaking of which there is a YUGO this neck of the woods with a 2 liter DSM turbo motor .... runs 12's on street tires ...
don;t sleep on the lil cars.
Another dude had a geo Storm running 11s then 10s on boost.

im guessing like someone else said. The car you bought already had a valve problem. Then you raced it. Made more damage. Now they are trying to charge hell out of you. No way a bent valve costs 4k to fix. **** if you wanna pay that i will only charge you 3k, lol. But really this sounds fishy either you did it or they aold you a lemon bar.
I just had the pleasure of doing a head gasket on an s2k.
Bent valves on the s2k, is a direct result of a missed downshift (in many cases) This is from information recieved from honda tech line in CA. There have been many cases from what I understand.
I had to replace the head gasket on this particular s2k because of an overheating problem.....came to find out the head had been off before, and the hack who did the prior repairs, messed up more than just the head gasket!
Its not the easiest head to remove, but it really isn`t that bad. At 4g, the price you were given seems a little steep. I would guess somewhere in the 2000 - 2500 price range would seem a little more realistic......................JP
