Help I cant shift !
I am so pissed right now. Here's my problem:
I bought an 89 Civic Si and i plan on turbocharging it so this weekend i said let me upgrade the clutch. So I bought an 1991 ACT pressure plate with a 6-puck disk. Of course that means i needed to also get the bigger flywheel. No big deal a friend gave me his flywheel from a 93 hatch, i think. I also replaced the throw out bearing and the transmission fluid.
Anyways to make a long story short i just got done a couple hours ago but the damn thing doesn't want to shift into any gears. I have to start it in neutral and when i try to change gears it acts as if im trying to change them without pressing in the clutch and the engine wants to stall. I tried adjusting the clutch cable with no luck. If the car is off i can go through all the gears with no problem so i don't think the transmission took a poop. Also the clutch is hard just like an act should be so that makes me think the throw out bearing is installed right.
What else could it be? Im going nuts here, i really wanted to drive it test the new clutch.

do you have a cable or hydro clutch ??
if you have hydro clutch do you have pressure?? make sure there is no air in your system. that killed me for a while when i swapped my engine in my 240.

I have cable.
Yes i can shift when the car is off.
The shifter feels good. Its not sloppy or loose.
I think i adjusted the cluch cable at least 50 times. I went from one end to the other so i have no idea what properlly adjusted means anymore.

well then it sounds like your clutch is simply not engaging onto the flywheel-actually sounds like its already engaged and not disengaging.....somthings wrong with your clutch cable or your clutch fork/t/obearing.
Your going to have to either replace the clutch cable or take it all apart and see what you messed up.

Proper adjustment would be having the cable snug enough so there is minimal play when you pull up on the arm that actuates the release bearing.
Are there anymore details that you can think of that may be helpful?

Mine did that, was working fine then all of a sudden started that ****.
My dad hops in, i hear a nasty *** grind for like a second maybe, he drives it around the block and it was all good. He did something i dont know what. It was almost like the clutch was not disengaging or something.. I dont know.
When adjusting clutch cable, tighten the cable JUST like a thread before tension starts. Well thats how mine is, dont know if its right or not.

Well the throw-out bearing i bought was for a 89 but all 89-91 use the same throw out bearing correct?
Another thing when i adjust the cable and just when the tension starts theres a noise coming out of the tranny. Its not loud but its there and it sounds like grinding.
I dont know what to do i guess ill have to take it all apart but thats not going to be for a month or two because of my schedule.

Maybe if your Hercules,
I sure know theres way to much tension on that arm for me to pull the damn thing up.
