In my opinion the ZC DOHC really takes a turbo nice. I have a friend with a DOHC ZC T3/T4 turbo with nothing done to the internals and it runs great. But thats just my opinion.

I did my ZC. With very moderate boost levels I was running around a 14.0-14.2 in a Civic Si hatch on just average every day tires. I was getting 2.2 - 2.4 60fts.

I don't know how that compares to others with similar cars, but the ZC seemed to like the boost. If it got even a shred of traction it would probably be in the 13s easily. Its really fun on the highway once you're already moving.

I have a Greddy SOHC kit with around 7psi using a crappy FMU setup and an Si trans.

Even though there is nothing technical about which motor is good, hopefully my experience will help a little. Also, I didn't put this out there so that someone can tell me that their uncles, neighbor's, friend's, highschool teacher's, boy'z HF with a destroked and detuned 1.5 liter runs 9s with no tires and a 300lb fat girl in the hatch.

thanks for the replys,

The zc seems to be the choice (cheap) turbo solution, but I may go with a z6 or a6 and boost that.

Any thoughts on installing a 93 z6 in a 91 lx?? Direct bolt on with Mpfi converison on car, or is specific mounts needed, and what about axles?

well...no difference really....a zc and d16 are limited to the same weak weak rods and pistons...

We had a D15B7(92 DX) with a T25(Eclipse) turbo in an 89 Hatch

ARP studs
Cometic headgasket
Apexi super AFC
DSM 450cc injectors
Saab intercooler
Crane stage 3 turbo cam
stock internals

It ran a 13.1@103 at 12psi boost with 22x8x15 M/T slicks

Unfortunately a leaky heater hose decided to fill the speedometer cable hole on the transmission with some of that green stuff.

Another recommendation for the ZC here.
I have a stock ZC in my 90 CRX Si.
With the Greddy kit I'm making around 240hp and 200+ tq.
It's very fast, and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Setup is: 10psi, Spearco FMIC, 450ccs, ZDyne and some good tuning.
The ZC just seem to like boost. -Enjoy

I'll be boosting my A6 here in a few weeks (hopefully) I will keep everyone posted and to how that goes. Here is my setup:

SS Autochrome manifold
Air Research T3 .42 A/R at about 7psi to start
Custom 20x8 cooler
Custom Piping
Custom Down pipe
GReddy Type S BOV
DSM 450's running on Uberdata
AEM UEGO Wide Band O2

I guess we'll see how it does here very soon

Well open deck, weak rods and weaker ring lands. Take your pick. None of them are exactly "well suited" for boost.

True, but as HumanResource said as long as its just at 8psi, I should be ok, It is of course a d series, disposable as hell!
