Which weight motor oil for LS motor?
you should always use the thinnest possible that you can get away with before you start burning it. This will keep your clearances as tight as possible. thicker oils tend to wear large clerances. With that being said, use 5w-30. There is 0w-20 out now, but i dont know if b series clearances are too big for it, you could try it, but if you get a bunch of clacking and oil burning, step up a grade.
Ok so let me get this straight. I should use 5w30 on my NA LS and when I turbo I should use something like 10w30. Also, with the 10w30 in my NA LS, what negative effects could happen?
i say use a 10w-30 oil. the 10w-30 dino is better than the 5w-30 dino. for one, the 5w-30 dino isnt shear stable. too much viscosity improvers causes it to thin out fast. my favorite conventional oil is chevron supreme.
and 15w-40 if your going turbo.
