valve tap or what
well i know my c5 motor alway had that type writer tappin type of sound, (if any of you know what im talking about) but recently i put my exahiust and header on and for some reason a valve tap seemed to be present, though it was an exhaust leak but i dont think so, so i had the valves adjusted still there, i hope this isnt jsut in my head. if it is a valve tap how can i got about correcting it.

does the ticking increase as you increase in RPMs??

I have noticed a little ticking from mine also. I thought it might be the valves but they were adjusted about 7,000 miles ago after I broke in my new engine. You dont think it would be an electrical problem do you? I got a new longblong under warrenty but I dont think they changed out the distributer and I know they didnt change out the wires. Keep in mind the car has about 89,000 miles so I fiqured a good tune up is almost due anyway.

I do all of my engine work including adjusting the valves every 1500 miles and after every 5 races. I found that due to the high rpms and heat your rollers collect a considerable amount of resedue which causes you valves to open a little more and not close completly. after cleaning them the tick (not a full tap) goes away until a few hard miles. I installed a set of skunk 2 cams on my boys car and his ticking is practicly non existant. so dont sweat it. only worry if they are rattling of tapping inconsistantly.
