I felt a big difference from my strait pipe. And yes, the engine light will come on. I love seeing that engine light.

Weird..I had a straight pipe with my OBDII ECU and no check engine light.
I welded a O2 bung in the straight pipe and still used the 2nd O2 sensor.

Only some CEL's will affect the performance of the car. A CEL for the 2nd O2 wont.

It is a myth that there is a limp mode or some other bs if you have a cel due to the secendary o2 cat sensory.

No “limp mode” (loss of power) was noticed with my car.
I was on track a few months ago with a test pipe (did not have time to purchase a high flow cat) and the CEL was on (code #67). There was a noticeable difference in top end power.

Luke a test pipe is a straight piece of exhaust pipe that replaces the Catalytic converter, in the US it is highly illegal and can result in fines if ever used upon a public road, plus it increases pollution considerably, I will be using one for racing though, you can usually get one for under 100$ U.S.

A test pipe is a free flowing pipe that replaces the cat. It's called that because it is for off road use only, or for running "testing". Do a search for dyno charts. I believe there is one that shows no difference between a test pipe and a carsound cat.

Thanks, it looks like overall a gain of 3-5 HP?, but is the throttle response improved?, is it worth it?

The gains would be different per the modifications done to the motor.

Slight throttle response improvement... but not the main reason to install one.

The main thing that I noticed (along with some top-end power improvement vs. the full stock system) was the massive reduction of heat along the center console. The shift **** was cooler.
Touching the trunk area above the muffler revealed a warmer feel.
The stains on the right rear of the bumper section were aggravating to remove.

FYI: I installed a “JDM” 4 into 1 header at the same time the test pipe was used.

In order to really benefit the higher flow of a testpipe you should remove the bottlenecks and get an 2.5" header.

Thanks for all the info. I will probably not bother with a test pipe and instead wait to buy a complete system somewhere.

I've been told that cats don't last long if you're running rich in your setup. For that reason some people side with a straight pipe setup.

Anyone care to comment on this?
