Default What are the drawbacks on a thicker head gasket.

I did a search and the information found was limited. I'm going to boost my 99-00 si on stock internals for now. I will be using a t3/t4 turbo. I was planing on doing 7 psi at the most untill i found out (on this board) that some people are running higher boost (on stock bottom) with a thicker head gasket. How reliable is this? Will i be able to get by with a thicker head gascket untill i work on the bottom end.

Any info will be apreciated.

all it does is lower your compression and you will be able to run more boost, it would work....

the drawbacks are loss of compression and quench.but it won't hurt power w/turbo

It's the area around the edge of the combustion chamber where the piston comes closer to the head at TDC. This forms pockets of air that get squished out into the chamber at TDC and help the mixture burn by stiring it up a bit.

There doesn't seem to be a verdict out on how much it helps hondas. I have heard of I think Import Builders porting the head to match bigger bores, purposely taking away from the quench area.
