Default Possible problems with headlights

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 91 Accord EX and am having problems with the headlights. Whenever the car is running and I turn on the lights, they don't turn on right away. I counted one time and it took as long as 15 seconds! When the car is off the lights will come on right away. Does anybody have any ideas? I'm going to go get the alternator tested today. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I haven't had time to get the alternator checked. But now I noticed that the lights delay coming on even when the car's not even on. So that couldn't be the alternator could it? Could it be a headlight relay? Any help would be appreciated.

Could be a faulty switch or bad relay.

If I had to guess ... I would say you need to replace the headlight switch. Over the years the contacts will wear and it sounds like they are not making contact right away.

If it is the switch, how hard is that to do? Will I have to pull that whole assembly from the steering column? Or does the end just come off? Thanks everybody.

Yes take off the top and bottom valances and it should be right there.

Check the grounds too...if you have a faulty ground problems can occur...

Also you may want to check your actual plug to your bulb....sounds dumb but sometimes the easiest way is overlooked
