Kill Switch Q. Need a relay?
I posted this in the Security/Audio section, but with no responses. Thought I'd try here:
I've seen a couple of posts about installing an ignition kill and a fuel pump kill. Some have recommend using a relay, while others say to just use a switch.
Questions:
Is a relay necessary or will a swith suffice?
What would the current rating on the switch need to be?
Also, will a closed relay drain a battery if you park for a [long] while?
thanks

The answers to all your questions depend on which wire you choose to cut for the kill switch. Pick a wire that triggers a relay and you can just use a switch, there won't be a large current draw.
I have a simple push button latching relay fuel pump kill.
non detailed how to (tehehe)
make sure u have the proper tools:crimpers, wire strippers, multi meter, connectors, relay, push button alarm switch.
pull up ur back seat
see the aluminium cover, with wires running out of it
check which wires are energized with the car running (not just on)
cut one (blk wire white stripe, mabye... i'll ck tomorrow)
if the car stops dies within 10 sec you got it(remember the fuel rail has to lose pressure)
connect speaker wire to each side, run to switch, relay, what ever
For relay or more questions just ask and I'll try to respond as soon as possible
