91 Lude ignition switch and main relay delete.
Odd question I know but I need to delete my ignition switch and change to a toggle switch and push button.
I'd also love to delete the main relay and put that on a switch too, or at least the fuel pump.
The track I'm racing at wants the pump on a separate switch that can be shut off from outside the car.
Does anyone happen to know which wires off the ignition switch are needed for starting and run? Or a wire pin out from the switch? I have no need for accessories, lol there isn't any left in the car.
Thanks

Wiring a button to start the car is pretty simple, however adding security measures to keep anyone from taking your car without the keys requires a little bit of creative thinking.
For finding your ignition wire:
As for installing a kill switch for the fuel pump, I wouldn't delete the relay. I would just add a simple toggle switch to the 12v wire going to the fuel pump, and mount it wherever you need to. It would probably be easier to access it through the trunk and access panel. You'd probably want to put the switch on the rear end of the car anyway, I would guess.

Security is solved by storing the car without a battery, on the trailer or in the shop. This is a long long way from a daily driver. I'm not too worried about finding the hot lead, it's the run stuff I'm curious about.

Essentially any setup that you wish to use that can cause continuity for the wires listed for each position on this table will work.
A switch like this would be easy to install, I imagine:

You don't need to wire up a switch position for "position I" keep in mind. The only thing that's used for really is letting the car know the keys are in it, like for the beeping that reminds you to take your keys out when you open the door.

I would say leave the main relay in place. It really serves a good purpose not allowing the fuel pump to turn on when the car is either not starting or not running. It's a safety feature.

you do not need to wire anything up for the I position.
the I position = accessory. which is why you don't need it. when the key is in I position, the radio and cig lighter turn on.
II = run position
III = crank

Re: 91 Lude ignition switch and main relay delete.
to answer the original question:
the main relay controls: fuel pump, injector power, coil power, and ecu power. yes you can delete it, but you will need to get a little crafty and run separate switches for each. As holmesnmanny said though, it's a safety feature. you should keep it. if the track requires an external switch, then wire in an external switch that simply breaks the connection to the fuel pump. a shutoff switch wired into the power wire of the fuel pump.
there's also no need to run a toggle switch instead of the ignition switch.
you'd actually be complicating things and adding weight by deleting the ignition switch and main relay

Ah, yep. You're right. The beeps are when the key is inserted while still in position 0. Don't know why I was thinking it was position I.
