Default Winter Reading Questions....

For christmas I got a $100 gift certificate for Amazon.com and I have been looking at a couple of good books to read including Race Car Vehicle Dynamics, but I am a little concerned that this one hundred dollar book will be a waste and too far over my head. The only other racing rooks I have read are Going Faster by Skippy.

I am a Finance alumni from UCONN, so I am not stupid, but complex automobile engineering books *may* be a little over my head. Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

The Milliken book is pretty complex, but they do a good job trying to simplify the challenges. It is chock full of math from cover to cover. Pretty much a text book, handbook.

They do however, reference a bunch of other books that may be worth looking into. I'll see if I can dig up a list.

Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis. Seriously. The whole point is that sometimes the metrics that really matter are the ones that nobody is collecting...

I'd go for any mental racing books, like how to think. Don't know any off of the top of my head.

Note: looks like someone has the same advatar as me, dammit.

I wouldn't choose Race Car Vehicle Dynamics as it would use up your whole $100 budget. Here is how I would spend it:

1) Competition Car Suspension: Design, Construction, Tuning
by Allan Staniforth $25.17

2) Chassis Engineering/Chassis Design, Building & Tuning for High Performance Handling
by Herb Adams $13.27

3) Drive to Win: The Essential Guide to Race Driving
by Carroll Smith $17.47

4) Tune to Win
by Carroll Smith $19.95

5) Speed Secrets: Professional Race Driving Techniques
by Ross Bentley $11.17

6) Going Faster! Mastering the Art of Race Driving
by Carl Lopez, Danny Sullivan $20.97

All of which comes to $108 including free shipping from Amazon. Just delete #5 to keep it under $100. Read all those and you will know a lot. Then if you want more, get the Milliken book, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice. I made a list of books I like on amazon. Check it out if you like:

In the next 5 minutes, if anyone wants Tune to Win, Drive to Win, or Going Faster! PM me with your email address. You'll get to purchase those 3 that I just bought from amazon.com at 10% off.

it's 5:07pm central time...

The condensed version of the Miliken book might be available at your local Chevy dealer. At least it used to be. Miliken wrote the book after he wrote the Vehicle Dynamics section of the "Chevrolet Power" book.

THIS IS NOT THE PERFORMANCE PARTS BOOK.

I have both books. I'm on my third time reading the first chapter.
