www.cheapturbo.com rebuild service
I just purchased a used fmax kit with the turbo in need of a rebuilt. The guy i bought it from brought the turbo to turbonetics, and they estimated the rebuild cost of $560. Thinking that was expensive i told the guy to just send me the turbo and i would send it to cheapturbo.com because i read some good reviews about them.
I sent it to them about a month ago (November 29th). When asked if they received it i received an email back saying i would have a complete quote that afternoon. (December 9th) The end of that day yielded no email from them.
I called them the next day and i think Ken answered, saying he would have to talk with the technician and he would call me back at the end of the day with a quote. The end of that day yielded no call from them.
That was on a friday so i waited till the next week to call them (Dec 15th). They gave me a price of 405 shipped, which included rebuild and a few missing parts. Great price, i was happy. I gave credit card information and he said it would be shipped out on friday (Dec 19th)
I called today (dec 22) to find out if it was shipped and i got the answer that it won't be shipped out until tommorrow, because they were behind on the holidays. They are located in phoenix, me in michigan so i wondered how long it would take with standard UPS ground. He said probably won't get here until next friday due to the holidays. Ok, understandable. I decided to pass on next day/2nd day air because i was still waiting on my egt, and since the holidays were here it would take long time to get here.
I was just wondering how long a rebuild would take, it seems that it took 11 business days for the whole process (taking apart for estimation/rebuild) Now i haven't seen the work that they have done, but i was a little irritated that it took longer then expected because i planned to install this sunday, should i be irritated or is this normal?

I dont think you should be irritated. It is the holiday season so basically EVERYTHING in small businesses runs slower... And 3 weeks is a lot different than a month

From the time it left me to the time that they estimated it get back to me is 39 days
It's just the fact that i kept getting told i would receive a call or email and it never happened, which could have made the process go faster
I don't know, i guess i'm just over reacting

yeah, i guess it was just momentary anger, it passed. I called today and he was a lot nicer about it, apologizing for putting me off and everything. i guess yesterday he was just in kind of a hurry
Well, keep in mind also, with all the different stages/trims of wheels, and such, they might not have every single style on hand, so they might have to order parts from a supplier, and with holiday shipping, that could have held it up a week or so...
