CRX Timing & dist question
don't I need to set it at a certain degree from TDC or BDC?
sorry, I'm a rookie, this is what my friend told me to ask
he works on domestics

thanks thats a major help, but I can't locate the jump wire connection

many thanks

2nd Gen CRX the TAN colored connector is on the drivers side apron. You will see it where the wiring harness drops down from the shock tower. Take the cover off and use a flattened paperclip (make sure it is covered with tape to insulate it). You will find several timing marks on the pulley. Turn the crank slowly and shine a light in there until you find them. Use the RED ones to set your timing.
Thanks JC, could this jumper be preventing the new distributor from timing correctly? Could you explain the function?
Also I have see to got an TD 020 Dist insted of a TD 018 as was on the car when I got it , they look identical except for an outside capactior on one of the cables
Could it be that my timing belt could have slipped and jumped a tooth and thats why I'm having a promlem
Many thanks for any insight

The jumper lets the ECU know that the ignition timing is being set
so it does not alter the timing..
Here is the jumper location on '88 model:

sweet, so when swaping a distributor, even though I lined it up pretty close to the old one (measured with a caliper) the thing ran like ****
I'll check it out tomorrow

Thanks still can't find it on my 91 SI
Also, I took off the cam gear cover, the belt has some serious play at idle, even at 2-3kRPM there is slack on the pull side !
Does anyone know if the tensioner is serviceble?
many thanks, merry christmas

SUP MAN, i HAVE A 91 crx si with a soch Vtec.. I replaced many dist.. and now replacing the motor hehe!! its my 2nd motor.. I dind~t really get the problem with the car... I got lost half way hehe!! the car won~t start bc:::??
Not to sound like an *******, but if your a rookie, your should have never messed with the timing, I know its your car and you gotta start somwhere, but I would have looked at another engine, or diagram or somthing before I started messing around with that.
I know from experience when I was like 15 I took the T-belt off without much consideration while changing heads on my crx. Put it back on thought I did everything right and (even I was fairly knowledgable ttthhheennn) it ran like **** for like a week, until I finally limped it to my buddys shop who fixed it in about an hour, then explained to me what I fucked up.....ive never had a prob. since
but like what happened to me happens about 9 times outta 10 to guys on this site becuase they really have no idea what theyare doing and then complain when there car runs but like **** and loses to cars they could beat before.

What I did need help with is locating the timing adjustment jumper as 88DX was trying to help me locate.

On a '91 model,It is inside the car,on the passenger side kick panel
right under the glovebox..
