Default timing on the distributor

i was wondering how many degrees i could retard or advance my distributor, either way from the stock setting, so the middle i guess. someone told me it was 7 degrees either way, is this true or not.

On a stock car, you really shouldn't advance your timing more than 2 degress either way.

i don't think that a timing light is going to help, all i need to know is how many degrees i can advance or retard my distributor

I think I remember reading somewhere that you can adjust it + or - 7. But dont quote me on this.
