Motor Oil in Transmission?
A guy whose opinion i respect and trust told me he has been using Mobil 1 Synthetic 10w-30 in honda trannys for as long as he can remember, it works great and hes never had any problems. since im finishing up my swap right now i was wondering if this was an ok idea to try out? anyone else ever try this?
i use Mobile 1 10w-30 in my z6 tranny nothing is wrong with it sometimes i just change it often now and then just to keep my tranny and a good condition.
In older hondas (like pre-94) honda hadn't invented MTF yet, so they suggested running motor oil in it. I use GM Syncromesh Friction Modified and its the smoothest shifts ever. Even with a SS installed.
Only downside, the ish is like $15/qt

Do not use regular motor oil!!!! Use Honda MTF your syncros will thank you. If you have a Honda LSD and use regular motor oil it will ruin the LSD. In closing only use Honda MTF or you may ruin your tranny. I havent personaly used the GM syncromesh but I have heard that it works just as well.

Honda did when it shipped out its DA and DBs. Sure there are better transmission fluids out there, but if it was such a problem, don't you think honda WOULDN'T have done it?

i'm gonna change my tranny fluid today, but i just wanted to know is the fill plug any different (or in a different location) from the the usdm d series trannys? does the fill plug use the 3/8 in drive from a socket, or is it something else? this is on a jdm s1 cable tranny by the way
on my 92 civic, filling plug was 17mm. What you're talking about is drain plug. If you're looking at the drain plug dead straight, fill plug is to the left and up about 4".
As far as using motor oil....
I replaced my axles yesterday, and I filled it with 10W30. The repair manual says to use 10W30, so that's what I used. It worked well for 220,000km so it should work fine now.

But you notice how often these trannies grind? Honda MTF would be the minimum fluid I would run. If you read the factory manual, it says 10w30 can be used, but only as a temporary solution. Honda recommends the Honda MTF. I used it with no problems. The GM synchoshift works well too, that is what I am running right now. You can usually get it at any GM dealership.
