Tried everyting (screw extractor, Craftsman Screw outs, slot head, vise grips. After the vise grips, it ripped the head off. Then tried an extractor and it broke off inside. So, the only thing I have is this:


Any suggestions on how to get it out? I think that there is a good amount of rust on the bottom of this that is making it difficult to get out.

 

One other thing. That center is the extractor (hardened).

 

cut a slot in it and use a flat head
if that doesnt work, cut the extractor section out, then use a bigger one

edit**oh and try a manual impact driver from craftsman when you cut the slot (around $25 and great for brakes too)

 

Use a torch to heat it up before you try to remove it again, it will help.

 

hmm, interesting. got the sears impact driver already from wife's brake job.

Interesting idea... I'll have to keep that one in mind.

 

I cut the screw below the extractor and made a slot. The impact driver just ended moving the material on top (think maybe not enough material given that the screw is pretty small and the impact is BIG.

How do I drill out the screw? And if I do this, do I have to retap the hole?

 

are you able to screw in a nut?? if you can screw in 2 nuts and tighten and then try to loosen the inner one

 

No, it is now flush w/ the floor. How would I drill it out?

 

ok this happens all the time on jets and these are your best 2 options.
1: make a slot for a flat head or something of the sort and tap it off!
2: get a titanium drill bit to get thru the extractor but make sure its smaller then the bolt its self so that you don't mess up the treads. once your in pretty good it will twist right off.....

where is this bolt your having trouble with?

 

ok you said in you last post its "flush with the floor" so now you need to drill it out and retap
1. use a center punch on the screw.
2. use a drill bit smaller than the screw also note how far the screw goes in, don't drill too far threw.
3. retap the hole, I use a cutting fluid called "Tap magic" it helps alot.

This is what I do some times. If you have access to a welder, weld a bar on top and twist away. This works for me every time.

 

just get some jb weld and some cheap *** pliers or a screwdriver. weld that **** on, wait a couple hours and voila!
