Default An MSD IGNITION QUESTION, Worth it or not?

hey guys, I know this might sound like a stupied question, but what exactly does the MSD do for ur car?

I think I read something about gas mileage, and better throttle response?

Do any of you guys have an MSD setup and list some pro's / con's.
Also, whats a resonable price for the setup.

Thanks

I only have the MSD wires 8.5mm and they sucked.
I think the SCI and blaster cap is a waste of money, your stock ignition is more than qualified.

on a stock to mildly modified engine, an msd ignition will do next to nothing for you.

MSD Plug wires has some of the lowest Ohms rating in the market, but do understand that too low of an ohm is not good for your car.

If anyone answered that MSD or any good ignition doesn't help the car, they are wrong and have no clue WTF they are talking about. being it stock to highly modded. I know it doesn't help the stock car a lot cause the stock motor setup has limits.

Ignition (MSD, NOLOGY, CRANE CAMS, etc) boosts your spark energy making the fuel burn completely. If you have boost and use the 6BTM system it helps you a lot. It allows you to run stock timing in lower RPMS thus gaining low end power and retarding it as the boost is at it full, so you don't detonate as your cylinder pressure increases.

I have had 3 MSD ignitions, on stock, lightly modded, and a high compression NA engines, i loved it at every step of the way.

It helped my gas mileage a lot, almost doubled it. if you cared to ask.

I've got a 6AL on my nitrous car, but really it was so I wouldn't have to rely on the factory rev limiter. I put in the 6200 pills, and it keeps me from running into the fuel cutoff...

There are guys that make 400+ whp on stock ignitions...that should tell you something. The reason I don't have one is because it's just one more thing to go wrong on a modified car, and plus, my turbo y7 runs just fine without it!

I'll call your bet that you're an upright best-of-the-best ht representative
No reasonings behind your statements
No input on the question at all
Wasting bandwidth that proves yet again nothing
Basically a really cool badass

Listen man, screw the MSD wires atleast, mine popes out everytime I drive, seriously.

Thanks for the replies guys. Right now, my car in not heavily modified, so I will just wait for my turbo and then consider getting MSD.

BTW, whats the best one, I've see different types but whats the difference.

Thanks again

use aftermarket ignition only when your are misfiring at higher rpms, otherwise there is no net whp gains

my 92 ex came with msd everything, it runs great but im not sure how it compares to stock, but i do know that it makes my engine finally stall at like 200 rpms, good i guess if your trying to teach your g/f how to drive a stick

i have a b18b in my eg hatch that isn't heavily modifyed (intake, header, cat-back exhaust, lightened flywheel, MSD) and i have the MSD 6AL ignition box with the external blaster ss coil and it seems like there was difference in power.. the RPMs seems to rise alot faster and that also helps b/c i have a lightened flywheel.. (i did drive the car around with the lightened flywheel b4 i put in the igition system) i don't think i got better gas miles but i know that there was a power difference

if you have more air / fuel in the cylinders, then you should have "more" spark. if your a/f is stock - or close to stock - your spark should be as well. why have more spark when you don't have more a/f? just my .02

hmm...not worth if you're lightly modded IMO. a lot of turbo'd hondas on here and off make plenty of power without it. the only reason why i have one is because it was given to me.
