Default anyone track your car with a turbo/supercharger?

i am very tempted to buy a turbo kit for my h22, i am aiming for 220whp/200tq from a low boost kit similar to the greddy kit.

do you guys think this would be a reliable track setup? and what cooling measures do you take?

tia

if tuned correctly (not for 1/4 mile power) it would be safe.

large radiator and a large 'air to oil' oil cooler.

water and oil temperature gages are a must.

there were a few other threads on the topic too, but I cant seem to track them down in the archives. Search around some and you should find some good discussions.

I do 5-6 HPDE's a year with a jrsc at 5-7 lbs of boost. It gets hot on a 110 degree July weekend, and other than the stock oil cooler, I don't have any extra cooling parts. An oil cooler and some temp gauges would be a good idea, but I haven't had any reliability issues without them.

left foot braking and low (under 15lbs) boost help.

The A/F needs to be tuned correctly, the amount of boost needs to be appropriate for what's done to the engine, you need to have good oil, and you need to do something about cooling both the oil and the coolant.

I'm running 6-7 psi on a stock B18B1, A/F at 12.4, timing retarded to 14 (maybe I should go lower), and Mobil 1 0w40 Euro formula (a touch over full). I have not yet done anything to help cool the coolant or oil. It's fine for street driving and autocross, but it will start to get hot after a few laps of tailgating a NSX on a road course.

I have added the Spoon thermostat and thermoswitch since then, but all those do is make it start off with a lower coolant temp, so I just have a little longer before it'll get hot. I really need to upgrade the radiator and add an oil cooler... obviously, building up the engine is also on my To Do list.

Oh, and you really need a LSD bad. The wheel spin really sucks, especially at an autocross. Sometimes I'm even getting wheel spin while going in a straight line in 1st gear.

If you have a boost controller, the more sustained wot periods you're doing such as at a track day, the less boost I would run. For track days I would not run more than 13-14 psi on my car (talon), but do run in the 17-18 psi range at the autox (or drag strip). Also remember, the hotter your intake air is the more prone to detonation you are. So on the hotter days even though you may log less airflow at the same psi, run even less boost just to make sure no harm is being done. Your best friend for playing with a forced induction car is some kind of a data logger. That's the only way to know for sure if you are running safe or not.

Yeah the way the aluminum housing of the air filter disintegrated on track got me worried, but the blower and engine are fine. I ended up sliding a sock over the intake arm so I could drive the car home. I've been using my old aem intake ever since because I'm too lazy to replace the filter on the short ram.

Heh, I remember your hunt for a "filter" and seeing that poor filter unit. We were hunting around for screens, spare filters any ideas. Was glad that sock worked
