Is it hard to convert auto to manual (97 civic Ex)
nope its not hard, all is needed is the linkage, pedals from either a dx or ex,the whole clutch unit(ie slave cylinder, clutch cylinder, and tubing),and a manual transmission, ecu and patienceand some few odds and ends....

I am a little more than half way through my swap. I have a 98 EK hatch (auto) and i am switching it to a 5-speed, b16. I had a 93 CX as a donor, so all i had to buy are hard lines. It is alot harder than it seems...
1. Wiring harness is differant
2. You have to fabricate a place for the shift stabilizer to mount under your car
3. You have to fill the hole in the floor
4. Pedals can be tricky..ecspecially if you aren't patient (trust me...i had to smoke alot of pot to get the pedals in...that's just me though)
5. You have to swap out some mounts (one actually..trans mount)
Is it worth it...i think so...anybody can buy a 5 spd.. i made my own
I am thinking about doing a full write up once i am done- I haven't even begin to tackle the wiring for the shift selctor and the clutch switch...thats a whole other adventure, another day and a big sack-o-bud

i've just completed mine with a gsr swap, and let me tell you..it's worth every penny...although i did have a donor car, so the only thing i spent money on was the tranny mount and the swap. to make life easier, i recommend that you take out the steering column, so the pedals "slide" in easier. difficulty level 1-10...if you are mechanically inclined, i would say 5. not hard just time consumming.
"youngkow" did an awesome write-up about this conversion. just about everything you need to know can be found in this thread...
