Default manual transmition in an 04 civic ex

I wanted a manual when I was shopping for my car last year, but couldn't find any in my price range on the lot. I ended up picking up an automatic ex. ever since then I've regreted not holding out for a manual. i'm just wondering how much it would cost to put a manual trasmition in my car, parts and labor (if it's even worth doing). I saw the guide in the sticky but that's more of a do it yourself and I don't have that kind of confidence.

again car is an 04 civic ex coupe
little under 50k miles

ok i have an 2004 ex...personally it will cost you way to much to put a manuel tranny in there. First you have to have someone remove the auto tranny...expensive...than you have to find a manuel tranny...and links and shifter and so on...will cost you over 2 g's to do so and I really dont think that is worth it..you should have just waited and got the manuel..they should be cheaper anyways...but you didn't and its ok...but it will be way to much money to swap

well the thing is $2k was around what i was expecting. i think $4-5k is where i'd have to say f*ck it. the thing is my car still has alot of value, as i said it's got under 50k miles, cert used, mint condition.

aside from $2-3k being alot of money, are there any other reasons this might be a bad idea?

No not really. I mean if you really want to do it than do it. but to spend that kinda money on a tranny swap just seems silly to me..but you must really want to do it so go for it bro...goodluck

i do really want to do it. but i'm trying to make sure i'm making the right decision, thats why i'm asking here.

the way i'm looking at it is...

my bluebook value for private sale seems to be about $12-13k

i'm assuming i could lose at least $1k trying to sell it privately

now i'm already out $1k, plus i still gotta find a new car, and hope i can get a good deal on an SI. also i want a newer SI, because i'm not a fan of the hatchbacks, so i believe that means i have to go up 2 years from '04

seems like either way, i'll be paying almost the same to get a manual.

about another 50k miles of driving ur tranny will eventually blow, so might as well save up money till then. just an opinion
