Default Mini-Me Woes...

So I have been working on my 99 civic CX for the past four days and have had nothing but trouble. I am doing a Y7 Y8 mini-me with some add-ons, front & rear brakes from an EX along with front sway, EX power steering rack in with a breather kit that I purchased from a member in the classifieds, ITR master and booster, OBD2b to OBD1 harness with a P28, new clutch, timing belt, water pump, and some other goodies. After many roadblocks and dead ends I finally got to drive it tonight. I got about a half mile away from the house and try to get on it a little and it backfires slightly through the intake and dies. I pull over and it will not start. My friend and I walk back to the house and grab some tools and my crx to go inspect the problem. At this point I fear a broken timing belt or even a slipped belt. Come to find out the keyway sheared off of the cam gear allowing the gear to move freely. we tried to rotate the crank to check the markings and discovered the bolt in the gear not turning. Well I call a friend with a truck and a tow strap and wait. In the mean time we put the tools away talk about taking the bumper off. I straighten up the wheels to be ready for the tow and I end up popping my tire because we left the extension and socket on the cam gear and I cranked it and it seemed pretty hard but I don't have power steering and I was pissed already and proceeded to drive an extension through the sidewall of my tire before I figured out what was going on. So now I have to find a spare and a jack because mine are not in my car. finally got the bumper off and a spare and on the way back being towed the tow strap broke and we had to push it the rest of the way. finally got it back and left it in the garage for now. Fun stuff and that was just today's problems. To make a long story even longer I probably need another Y8 cam if anyone has one available. Sorry for the long story but I had to vent and who better to share it with than the people the drive me to stick with it. Maybe I need a lucky rabbits foot or something. I will have updates and pictures before long, there should be some good ones so stay tuned!

if the bottom end was turning but not the top end, you might have bent some valves, too. hope you start having better luck man.

Maybe I fibbed a little in my previous statement. When we inspected it after it died I noticed that the cam gear was loose and I know it was tight when we put it all together. I went to tighten it back up and the bolt broke. I am not sure if I broke the keyway or if it broke because the bolt was loose and the gear was bobbling around which could of weakend the bolt causing it to break when I tried to tighten it again. It didn't seem very tight when it broke. Not sure but I sure hope my valves are OK. I was only going about 30 at partial throttle. We will see.

no offense but it sounds like you bit off more than you can chew.

I dont know if anyone could install ALL that stuff you mentioned in 2 days!! thats kinda ridiculous.

oh and did you torque everything down to spec correctly(especially that cam gear)?
