Is coolant supposed to stink?
Just thought I'd check the coolant level and when I popped the cap open it smelled like rotten ****. Just curious if radiator coolant is supposed to stink this bad? Shouldn't the color be green too?
well your motor should have HONDA/toyota RED coolent and no matter what the color it shouldent stink at all. only the smell of antifreeze. Smells like you need to change and flush the syatem includeing the block. If you dont drain it you can blow a head gasket and corrode your motor. Use the RED stuff not the green stuff to. Red it better for aluminum motors.
Coolant in our new '03 Accord is blue/green. But you can't always tell by the color. Chrysler used some red-colored stuff that wasn't compatible with DexCool. OEM Saab (before they changed to DexCool) was about the same color as OEM Honda, but I don't think the corrosion packages are compatible with each other.
I hope Calavera knows what antifreeze is supposed to smell like, otherwise this is just a waste for him... If you don't know how long it's in there, and if you aren't really sure what it is, rinse it really good so you don't have any old stuff left in there. Especially if it smells bad.

it should smell like stinging sweet, if that make sense...
if it smells like rotten ****, you have a problem. likely you have some serious corrosion going on in there, if it is a brownish color that is bad.
I recomend taking it to a shop and getting a FLUSH (not a drain and refill), where they hook it up to the machine and put through chemicals, this will clean off any corrosion, break apart any blockages, and finally it puts in some anti corrosives.

When also changing coolant while filling be sure to unplug the heater hose and let the coolant top off from the hose then plug it in other wise you may get water pump problems.
