mixing different brands of coolant
I have no idea what brand of coolant is in my radiator right now. It is getting low, and I'd like to top it off, but I'm not sure if mixing different brands of coolant is alright as long as they are both non-silicate. Also, how can you tell if the coolant is non-silicate? I can't find anything on the container that mentions anything.

Re: mixing different brands of coolant (RotaryPWR)
If its green, use green coolant. If its orange/red, use dex-cool.
You wont hurt it by mixing brands. just use a proper coolant/water mixture for your environment, and make sure the colors match.

Not sure, but if you mix dex-cool with regular green coolant, its not good for your system as it can sludge up your lines and cause your water pump to go out sooner.
But as far as i know you are ok to mix any brand of green coolant with any other brand. which is probably what you have. Dex-cool comes in the newer GM vehicles as well as several other manufacturers. I have seen blue as well. Alot of people flush out all of the green stuff and refill it with dex-cool because its a better formula.
