Default Weird VAFC PROBLEMS - SEARCHED - Bet ya never heard this one.

READ BELOW FOR MORE CLEAR EXPLAINATION - 4th Post

Ok probably last Friday it was - a mechanic i know installed the VAFC, and he has done plenty of them before, in my 96 GSR - (no obd1 conversion) - and he tuned it properly - This weekend (I go home on weekends from college) I noticed the vtec engagement was almost returning to stock - 4500 / 5900. But the reason i posted and I said it wierd is this ...
Going slow through the throttle, I would say probably 50% or below - my VTI - which I believe means basically low cam - engages at what it is set at 5100 for low 5500 for high ... and the high engages what it was set at.... LIKE IT SHOULD ...

BUT - note weird! - If I give it through full throttle the vti engagement starts at 4500 - stock setting - but the high cam still engages at what I set it at. So half half - stock setting and personalized setting.

This may be me just being stupid ... but the vtec sounds loud as hell ... at 5500 my setup point ... but even louder once i get too 5900 - stock point ... even though it works properly.

Also - before the secondaries open up - the car goes lean briefly then pops back up where it should be at .. which i have to figure out how to fix. - Need help I am lost and can't come in contact with the guy who helped install.

yeah here sorry -

Ok at a low percentage of throttle ... this is what happens

VTI engagement and VTO engagement is on at the settings I have made on the VAFC - which is 5000/5500

At full throttle (100% for example) the VTI engagement goes back to stock setting (4400). But the butterflies open at whatever setting I have made - for example 5500.

Slow throttle (like taking 20 seconds just to reach 7 grand) = my settings
Full throttle = Stock vtec engagement 4400 - but retains 2ndary butterfly settings that i made from VAFC.

I didnt know you could alter the secondary butterflies with a VAFC?????? And isnt the fact that it returns to stock settings at full throttle due to the fact that the OBD2 ECU over-rides the VAFC and runs its factory map/setting? (thats why they say OBD2 ECUs are hard to tune!

Some seem to get it to work fine with OBD2 ECUs but i've seen more posts on numerous boards where people cant get it to work properly.

Are you sure your using it properly as i'm after reading through the VAFC instalation manual on their website and they do not mention anywhere about being able to alter the inlet manifold 2ndary butterflies. Are you sure your not mistaking your acceleration/decelleration vtec x-over points and setting the two far too far apart?

The VTi is the input voltage from the ECU that tells the solenoid when to kick over to the HI cam. The VAFC changes the output rpm by outputting the VTo to the solenoid. It's reading right.

The VTo is the output voltage from the VAFC.

What cams and intake manifold are you using?

BTW, you can't adjust the IAB solenoid rpm activation using a VAFC. The IAB solenoid wiring isn't even included in the VAFC wiring procedures.

VTI is when the ECU is trying to tell the VTEC solenoid to engage. VTO is where you have it set to come on. When VTI says "ON" nothing should happen. The RPM at which this occurs changes due to throttle position. When VTO says "ON" you should hear VTEC engaging. Your extra runners should always open at the same time (around 6000). Does this make sense??

He tells it so much better than I do....and only 5 posts! He must be some sort of a prodigy.

So, have you thrown that thing on a dyno yet?

No dyno - reasons being the guy who hooked it up did 30-50 times, 40 - 60 times, and 60 - 80 times and found best configuration - Also I dont have a header - I will be getting soon - when thats on I will most likelt start searching ( wisconsin doesnt exactly have the best selection - even on from dynojets website there is like 5 and 3 of them are for diesels and atv's lol)
