Default ob2 = VAFC USELESS ?!?

Ok i get a vafc as a present this weekend and i was getting installed friday.

I just read that ob2 cpu makes VAFC useless because it compensates.

But i have air fuel gauge and fpr - and i have it at the perfect setting. Didnt compensate for that.

Is this true ? that ob2 makes VAFC tuning useless ?

Also what does it take to do obd1 conversion? just the harness ?

doesn't make vafc useless, and u need an obd2 - obd1 harness and obd1 ecu to do the conversion.

- but results arent as effective w/ ob2?

And can i just take the ob2-obd1 harness and ecu if i need to go into acura or emissions ? i can just switch it in/out right ? - do i have to worry about the o2 sensors. christ.

and my question is....

does obdII 'takeover' VTEC crossover...

like say i set it at 5700 with the v-afc... will obdII tell me no- and use stock x-over setting??

this is what got me thinkin'..

Ahh damnit - I still have an extended warranty on my car ... but i want the vafc ... in a bind. Warranty will be voided or i get better tuning, and its not like i get warranty work everyday, but i use performance everyday. bleh.

You gotta make the decision to take the plunge and go for perf or stay factory warrantied. Tough decision but I did the same and chose warranty and got stuff that was CARB legal (except for CTR cams, but those were Honda parts too). I used the warranty ZERO times since I bought it new.

Buy smart and tune well. And you won't have to worry about warranty. Good luck!

BTW, I have a VAFC on my '99 GSR and you can tune it with no issues. No issues with VTEC x-over as well.

its easy to disconnect the vafc.... its got a quick disconnect plug so all ur wiring is there but u can remove the safc itself.... so the dealeship wont know u have modded ur ecu unless they physically look at ur ecu and see the splicing (But they never physically check ur ecu ever)...

Talk to Kenji... He makes a plug-and-play harness for your VAFC so that you don't have tu cut or splice the factory harness... It works great if you ever need to take the car for warranty !!

I'm beginning to think this is true!

Im not %100 sure on this, cause i didnt do the wiring...
but ya.. i keep getting CEL's, and im pretty sure it has to do with the vtec x-over modification??

so how am i gonna set vtec to at least 5000rpm for these cams without obdII freaking out??

Don't lowering springs void your warrenty? a friend of mine said it would for her car, not a teg, but i don't think its dependent upon make of car.

well, it really depends on how much do you wanna spend.

me, i was so f*cking frusterated, i went out got my self hondata obd2 connector obd1 ecu & hondata s200, which it costed me 1k including installation & dyno tuning.

but if you wanna go low price, upgradible, then you should go get your self, obd2 -> obd1 connector & find yourself obd1 p-72(depends on manifold). you'll be fine.

good luck, also v-afc will not have adjustability as hondata, so i can't guarantee how it'll work on your setup.

you gotta help me out then man.. i dont know if its the wiring here or not..
but damn obdII agrees with the 5000rpm x-over for about half a day, then throws a CEL, and takes away my vtec
has anyone been successful at upping the x-over with obdII??

TIA

I would definitely suspect the wiring in this case. We've used a Field controller (which uses the same concepts as te V-AFC) to move VTEC above and below stock, and to adjust fuel, all on an OBD-II vehicle, and never saw a CEL.

Edit: What code does it throw?

i have a vafc on a odb2, i didnt tune it yet but i have played around with the cross over. i know for a fact it worked fine setting it up at 5600. double check the wiring, maybe one of ur connections is loose.

let me go into more detail. On an OBD2 car, if you make a fuel correction more than 5% on the VAFC the ECU will recognize the change and compinsate for it. When you are on the dyno, it will not compinsate until the car is shut off or it has been running for awhile (sometimes it does not recognize change right away). So the settings you put in it will stay for only so long before they are compinsated for. so you could be putting 170whp down at the dyno but the be putting 160whp after leaving because the ECU compinsated. That is what sucks about OBD2. The ECU WILL adapt.

this is for skunkintegra ,
i have put a VAFC on a 99si and it never threw a code for changing the VTEC engagement point. if you change the engagement point the computer should have no problem with it. i am not sure if you are having a wiring problem because you car agrees with the change for along time then throws a code. i will try to investigate this more for you but i have never run into that problem before.
