Default How To Get Flywheel Off...???

I can't get my flywheel off. I have to do it by hand. No air tools for me. It keeps spinning though. So how can I get it to stay still so I can take it off? I also don't have a torque wrench so any suggestions on when I put on the different flywheel? Thanks.

there is a magic bracket on your car..

Its the one that connects your ex. manifold to the block. take it and manipulate it so you can put a 14mm head bolt into the block, and have one of the edges in between the teeth of the fly wheel.. then pull off the bolts.

you need someone to hold your crank pulley at the other end. that will keep it from spinng so that you can get ur bolts off the flywheel.

If you can sit the engine on an old tire on the ground that will sometimes work..
be careful though..

piece of chain connected to a flywheel bolt, and the other end to one of the 17mm bolts that held the trans in.

not a " head " bolt.. but a bolt that would require a 14mm socket to get off.. ..

any 14mm bolt will work... the one that holdds on the bracket works!

time to give up on giving up!

This is what I do:

Put in a transmission bolt (you know, the ones that bolt the transmission to the engine. Then I take a big bolt and wedge it between the flywheel teeth, and I brace it agains the transmission bolt I threaded in. Works everytime.

If you have the pressure plate off take a screwdriver or a allen wrench and put it in one of the holes the p-p bolts went thru. It will hold it in place and will not hurt anything. I always make sure its not on the oil pan though for safty

if you are really stuck and can't wait for another person to hold the crank pulley, you can always go to the local parts store and pick up a flywheel holding tool

Thanks for all the replys. I got it off. BUT the clutch/pp/flywheel I got was supposed to be an 89 but it doesn't fit on my new tranny! So i'm just going to get the tranny that the new clutch/pp/flywheel was on. I don't care if it's an Si or not. This was a big headache.
