Default Flywheel Holder?

Well I torqued my flywheel bolts on w/ an impact temporarily, but I learned in my engine's class that uneven torquing of the flywheel can give in to severe rear main seal leaks. The reason I hit it with an impact in the first place is because I couldn't keep that damn flywheel from spinning, even w/ a big a$$ flat head (don't know what/where to wedge the flathead against?) So what I'm asking is how, if anyway to keep that flywheel from spinning so I can torque the flywheel bolts (remember, tranny off I'm looking at the stupid flywheel). Thanks for any ideas.

i used a strip of metal to bolt between the block and pressure plate hole. one side is held by one of the 17mm bolts from the trans bellhousing, the other side bolts to one of the holes on the outside of the flywheel that the clutch would bolt to.
