Just did my timing belt, water pump, etc today....the crank pulley nut is officially the hardest bolt to remove ever. It took a 3ft 1/2" drive with a 5ft metal cheater bar and a 145lb man HANGING from the bar(motor was in back of truck) before it finally broke loose. 2 500 ft/lb impact guns did absolutely nothing. Amazing that freaking nut has to be so damn tight. I don't know what I would have done if the motor would have been in the car....guess I would have had to have found a high tq impact gun. Anyways, once that nut was off, everything else went smoothly and she lined up at tdc on the crank and cams on the dot once the new belt was on. Searching def. made the job easier as did having the motor out of the car. I followed C-speeds instructions...damn good site. Hope she fires right up once she is dropped in. Quick question, doesn't the crank pulley bolt have to be re-tq'ed to 140ft/lbs?

 

130 lb-ft. i took the bolt off with a 24" lug wrench. might have been easier b/c the motor was in the car, and i had someone on the brakes.

 

Actually the torque on the Crankshaft pulley bolt is 181 ft lbs. All you have to do to get it loose in the car is to use a crankshaft holding tool, or something to hold the crankshaft from turning (mine is a Snap-on crankshaft holding tool, and works great!) then I use 3/4 drive breaker bar and 3/4 extension with a good brand socket, and support the extension with a jack stand and I use a 6 ft pipe to get the breaker bar outside of your wheel well and they always break loose like you just snapped of the bolt.

 

On my 92 integra, the pully went bad, it started to wobble i still remember i was tring to open it with a 3/4 in. socket and a 19mm.

does having someone on the brakes really stop the motor from turning. i might sound dumb but why have i never head of that. does it matter if the car is in or out of gear or what?

 

impact wrench is the easiest way

i was thinking the same thing, when i did mine i sat there for like 15mins fighting with a breaker bar and ****, then i pulled out the impact, had in off in about 5sec.

my teggy helms says 130lb-ft, 145 for a new one (loosen then retighten to 130). to keep the motor from moving, put the car in 1st, and have someone step on the brakes. works like a charm. it also works to get ur axles nuts off

Really, because I have always done 181 ft lbs and I have looked in my crapy chilton's book and asked my Honda Dealer and they both said 181 ft lbs. Oh well.
