depends on what all has to be done to the block to get these parts to fit. If there is a bore/hone that needs to be done, balancing, etc..

if the your engine is already out the car and ready to get worked on, 800 bucks is way too much.

bore/hone doesnt cost alot. cost me around 40 bucks to do that when using std size 81mm.

probably around 100 bucks to do the pistons and rods.

headgasket, probably charge u a nickel and 2 dimes, cuz they have to slap on a headgasket anyways so they shouldnt charge u to use a new gasket.

theres a bunch of stuff u COULD do since the motor is already out.

800 is cheap if they are pulling the motor. Still cheap if machining is included...

At my Machine Shop, Bore\Hone\Jetwash is around $300...You gotta pay for quality work.

~700 is reasonable to have a motor pulled and put back in...$400-500 to have the motor assembled to spec, and ~200 is a nice round number for good machining...

$800 is cheap...

time=quality and quality=money
i charge about 125-150 per cyl for complete short block assembly
considering the tools that measure and check the clearances in a motor can cost several thousand dollars. like the mitutoyo digital bore gauge set i use for measuring clearances (over 3k) .000001 accuracy. its not like you can buy a tape measure to do the job right. </TD></TR></TABLE>

I agree you get what you pay for.

time doesnt always equal quality, one of the mechanics at our shop does engine swaps with a fuel rebuild on semi's over 20 hours faster than they should be done, he is just super efficent, and he has never had a comeback..
