ummmm its not going to be cheap.

the easiest way is to take the head off the motor so that will cost you a head gasket at the very least.

2nd what kind of pistons? what size?

in order to do it right you have to take the whole motor out bore/hone new gaskets everywhere that needs it.

im going to say you are looking at around 600-1000 bucks.

FUDGE!
well im getting the pistons next week.
im not 100% sure what bore size is my y8 (im thinking 75).
if it is 75 should i keep it as that or should i make them 75.5?
what does that .5 difference even do? if it does anything

your doing this backwards.... first the block goes to the machine shop... thats when you order the pistons depending on how much your block has to be bored or if it does at all.. they can hone it and just re-ring the stock pistons.... (or stock size pistons),

you buy your piston and rods. stock bore is 75mm

dependant on how bad your sleeves are you pick your piston size. MOst can get away with 75mm but its safer better to go with one size up like 75.25 or even .50 over.

it makes a huge difference. with an over sized piston you start fresh with a fresh wall and ensure a good seal. You also have to decide how much you want to boost to decide the ring gaps.

i think you have alot lot of research to do.

THANK YOU SIR! will get the .50 over. and i am ONLY going to run about 15 psi max.
just my daily driver with a little fun at the side.

and yes i do have A LOT of research to do. in fact, i have been on H-T most of the day searching and reading ANYTHING that is relavent.

EDIT: and i am still not 100% sure what "sleeves" are. YES I KNOW. "NOOB" but hey. live and learn is my motto.
like im not sure if you buy them and install them, or if they come with the car already, or just anything about them. i KNOW what they look like and where they go, thats about it

every motor has stock sleeves. its the cylinders that surround your piston.

Some people get aftermarket sleeves in Iron form to make it stronger to withstand the higher hp. They cut your current sleeves out and replaced with iron sleeves or other designs. This is not needed and it cost around 1100+ dependant on what company you go for. D series has been pushed past 400+ hp and still not crack a sleeve. Its more of a insurance policy more then anything.

WTF?!?!?! they cost around $1100?!?!?! forget that ****! im broke as hell! ill stick with the stock sleeves.
IF i get it over bored to 75.5mm, will i need new sleeves? or will the stock one still be usable in this application?

thank you sir. but i found out that if there are no score marks and cross-hatch is visible then i do not neeed to hone the block. so im thinking of just keeping it at 75mm

this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/building-powerful-na-d16z6-y8-1409008/ REALLY helped me out alot

but just out of curiousity(spelling) how much would it cost to over bore it to 75.5mm?

Yeah, I was always told that 8 psi was the average and 10 was pushing it on stock internals. Mind you, some people have successfully gone higher with no issues, it boils down to having the right tune and not driving it like a goof.

you can keep it at 75mm its just better to start completely fresh so the rings seal better.
you might want to check out www.d-series.org they have alot of those type of write ups.

Cross hatching is a good thing and sometimes even after 100k miles they are still visible.

PSI is all relative its the HP that breaks a motor. 10 psi on a 14b turbo is NOTHING compared to 10 psi on a gt35. there might be a 100 hp difference between the two.

D16 motors can handle around 200 safely 225 pushing it.

wow. your an idiot. it all depends on what type of turbo i am using. like lobster said. 15 psi can be different from other turbos.

and why do you think im completely going to have my engine rebuild? new cam, cam gear, titanium valves, valve springs, rods, pistons and ACL bearings.
I know what i am doing. I have read many posts. but i am just asking a few more questions that i have NOT found. ok little man?
